Behind the music - Fya Fox

Fya Fox
Fya Fox

Irish alt-pop singer Fya Fox has released her second single, Body. We asked her the BIG questions . . .

Fox is a classically trained vocalist and cites Banks, Lana Del Rey and London Grammar as influences and Body is the follow-up to her well-received debut single White Lies.

Tell us three things about yourself?

I'm a short-ass, literally 5ft 1", maybe that’s why they gave me a big set of lungs! Addicted to tea, major tea-a-holic and I have an unapologetic love for pasta!

How would you describe your music?

I would describe my sound as sparse electro-pop/alternative-pop, definitely vocally-driven with complementary production. Striking a balance is the chief’s kiss!

Who are your musical inspirations?

London Grammar without a doubt! Those guys have been a major inspiration. Personally, I feel my vocal is quite similar to Hannah Reid.

How are you occupying yourself during the coronavirus lockdown?

Walks, walks and writing music. I have a little pug, her name is Holly (she is the cutest, promise I’m not biased) she is obsessed with the forest. We’ve been blessed living in the countryside in lockdown.

What’s your favourite song right now?

I’ve been obsessing over Claudia Valentina’s song Seven. Claudia’s voice is phenomenal!

Favourite lyric of all time?

Banks’ song Contaminated comes to mind, not necessarily my favourite lyric but because it’s clever, a whole story is created in my mind from this one line, "you love me like you promised your wife". I can picture the betrayal, the anger, the hurt, it's clever.

If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life what would it be?

I think once we finally get out of lockdown it will be, I'm Still Standing by Elton John!
