Junk Kouture opens its doors to primary schools across Ireland

Junk Kouture Junior has arrived!
Junk Kouture Junior has arrived!

Every year, Junk Kouture - a fashion competition that has to be seen to be believed - calls on the incredible talent and imaginations of the country's secondary school students as they showcase their most jaw-dropping haute couture constructions... made entirely of 'junk'.

Always a fabulous affair, this year's competition will host RuPaul's Drag Race star Michelle Visage and X-Factor's Louis Walsh as the celebrity judges of this environmentally friendly extravaganza - but that's not all.

Open to all secondary school students in both the Republic and Northern Ireland, the challenge pulls in competitors from across the country but this year, they're going a step further.

To celebrate its tenth year, the contest has asked primary school students to get creative and produce high-end designs - from junk.

Junk Kouture Junior's inaugural event will take place in 2020, whereby primary schools run their own competitions and the creations will be featured on JK platforms throughout the year.

From today, Thursday, 12th December the team are calling on primary school students from all across the island to get in touch with their inner fashion designer by downloading their special Junk Kouture Junior starter pack now.

Junk Kouture Junior aims to inspire young people to do something good for the planet through their own creativity. And remember, it must be 100% recycled.

In teams of three – including the model – pupils and their teachers can brainstorm together as they learn that recycling is far more than just separating carboard from rubbish.

They even might be able to give a second lease of life to usually single-use products in true trashion form.

Former Miss Ireland Aoife O'Sullivan, who is also a primary school teacher from Co Cork, launched the competition today saying: "As a primary school teacher myself, I think this will be a really big hit in the classroom."

Students can register their designs from 6th January 2020. Go to JunkKouture.com for more detail.
