UTV Ireland's head of channel, Mary Curtis, has stepped down from her post.

Curtis joined UTV Ireland in July 2014 after holding a number of senior positions in RTÉ. She is the latest high-profile member of UTV Ireland to leave the channel but according to Curtis it was always her plan to review her role after her first year there.

Speaking about her decision to resign, Curtis said she is proud of what she achieved in the role, and wished her colleagues success in the future.

"I am very proud of what we have achieved – both in 2014 whilst setting up the channel and throughout our first year of broadcasting in 2015," she said. "I am very lucky to be surrounded by a highly talented and enthusiastic team in UTV Ireland and I wish everyone at the station every success in the coming years."

She added, "It has been an exciting and challenging year for the team and I, and we have succeeded in attracting more than 2.3 million viewers every week, which is a tremendous achievement for a new television channel."

Curtis will vacate her position in early February.
