Lidl says it plans to rebuild its Fortunestown store in Tallaght, which was partially demolished with a digger during Storm Emma on 2 March.

The building was demolished after the incident due to health and safety concerns. Staff based at the store were redeployed to other stores in the area but the future for the shop in Fortunestown was uncertain.

Lidl said today that they will begin rebuilding in the coming weeks, with the new store set to open in late summer.

The company said it was: "blown away" by the level of support received from its  loyal customers in  Fortunestown over the past few weeks.

Lidl has been operating a free daily shuttle bus from the Fortunestown store to the next nearest Lidl  in Tallaght.

Six men appeared in court charged in connection with the incident during the Storm Emma.

They have been released on bail to appear in court again later this month.
