VOX NOSTRA WITH VLAD SMISHKEWYCH
Let's Dance! On this Sunday's Vox Nostra we celebrate Thoinot Arbeau and the many other known and anonymous dance masters who left us great tunes from ages past. Mixing with the subtle sounds of ancient music from the times of St Patrick and the other Irish saints, will be the galliards, gigues, gavottes and other dances that made nimble feet move gracefully, centuries ago. Plus - Early Music Day is this Friday, celebrated every year on 21 March: JS Bach's birthday, spring equinox. Vlad will have plenty of music by Papa Bach and family ready to go on this special Sunday morning. I lár Seachtain na Gaeilge, tá maidin cheoil ársa ag ceiliúradh Pádraig, Naomh na hÉireann - chomh maith le ceol agus rince na gcéadta bliain ó shin!

THE LYRIC FEATURE
The Shaky Bridge
The poet Louis de Paor grew up in Cork but has not lived there for many years. In The Shaky Bridge he goes back to explore how the Cork of his childhood, and especially the Cork that his father knew, runs throughout his poetry. This is the second of two programmes for Seachtain na Gaeilge in which bilingual Irish poets reflect on working and living in both Irish and English.
Some forty years since he last lived in Cork, Louis de Paor goes back to where he spent his childhood, recalling family and places that he knew, and some of the Cork writers who would influence his work. He walks the streets of Cork city with local historian Diarmuid Ó Drisceoil, talks with Claire Ní Mhuirthile about the writers Liam Ó Muirthile (her late brother) and Seán Ó Ríordáin, and reminisces with Dónal Gallagher, brother of the guitarist Rory Gallagher. They compare childhood experiences of learning Irish, and poems by Louis de Paor in Irish and in English translation are woven throughout the programme. Louis reflects on how, even after so many decades spent elsewhere, the city and its environs still haunt his poetry.
Louis de Paor's poetry is published by Bloodaxe Books and Cló Iar-Chonnacht and the English translations of the poems are by Kevin Anderson, Biddy Jenkinson, Mary O'Donoghue and Louis de Paor. Produced by Claire Cunningham,
Sound supervision by Tinpot Productions.

VESPERTINE WITH ELLEN CRANITCH
In 1974, scientist Lewis Thomas was asked what he would include in the Voyager interstellar missions to explain to aliens a bit about the human race. He replied, ' The works of J. S. Bach - but that would be boasting'. On Bach's birthday, and Early Music Day, I'm doing my own bit of exploring, and finding all kinds of left-of-centre versions of his music. Proving that his music is indestructible and timeless, we'll hear selections from The Modern Jazz Quartet, electronic cellist Peter Gregson, Al Di Meola, the Feria Saxophone quartet, and the Grammy Award winning Goldberg Variations by Icelandic wunderkind, Vikingur Olafson.
