Longford went goal crazy in a 5-21 to1-06 win over Lancashire at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park as their Lory Meagher campaign started in a positive fashion.

The away side raised the first green flag of the day through Peter Boylan 14 minutes in, but Longford led 1-10 to 1-03 at half-time with Niall Hawes netting just before the turn.

Further goals followed from Ronan Courtney, Dan Crossan, Johnny Casey and Rueben Murray, from a penalty, as they started with a 27-point win.

Cavan defeated Warwickshire 3-13 to 1-13 in the league, and it was a very similar scoreline in their Nickey Rackard clash as the Breffni side won 3-14 to 0-15.

The English side made a bright start with Darragh McGuinness, Gareth Long and Jack Grealish all nabbing a brace apiece as they led by five points after 13 minutes, but Mark Moffett's goal helped Cavan settle, although they still trailed 1-05 at 0-12 at the break.

Cavan dominated proceedings from there with Sean Keating topping up his scoring tally while Moffett added a second and third goal in the closing quarter.

Leitrim and Monaghan battled the elements as well as each other in Carrick-on-Shannon, with the hosts emerging 2-13 to 2-09 victors.

In wet and windy conditions, Leitrim's Gavin O'Hagan found the back of the net for the first goal of the game after just seven minutes, and the home side led by 1-07 to 1-02 at half-time. Monaghan's major came via the hurley of Eithan Flynn.

Michael O'Brien stretched Leitrim's lead with a goal just before the halfway point in the second half, meaning Niall Arthur's goal in the closing stages was never likely to prove more than one of the consolation variety.
